In September 2010, Lakehead University opened its state-of-the-art Orillia campus and residence complex, the first step in its development of a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum university campus, and the only university in North America to be entirely designed and built to this standard.
The Sarjeant Company proudly donated $200,000 to Lakehead’s Your Bright Future Campaign. “Local higher-learning institutions not only allow our young people to receive their education closer to home, they are also a significant economic driver with far-reaching and long-lasting benefits. The team at Sarjeants is delighted to participate in this stage of Lakehead’s development, and looks forward to enhancing its relationship with the University in future years” said Sarjeant’s CEO, Scott Elliott.
Representing the highest in efficiency and environmental design, Lakehead’s new academic building is environmentally friendly in every way possible, and includes a green roofing system, a geothermal energy source, water collection ponds and much more, providing 5,000 – 7,000 students with a groundbreaking place to study flagship programs in environmental studies, business, criminology, and integrated arts and science.
